The giant icicle on Avenue W North is on it's way down.

On Monday, a fire inspector was sent to the site of the icicle to see if it was a potential public hazzard, and they were assured by a contractor the three-story ice block would be taken down. However, by Friday, the icicle was still standing and Saskatoon and Protective Services issued a release indicating they issued a compliance order to have the sturcture removed within 24 hours.

An attempt to take it down was made Friday morning, however, crews needed bigger equipment to tackle the giant ice mass.

The icicle became a local attraction after several news crews found the structure. Since then, it's taken on a life of it's own on social media.

Here is a collection of some of the highlights of the giant icicle's 15 minutes of social media fame.
