Saskatoon Police Service suspends 5 officers with pay following 'off-duty incident'
A group of Saskatoon police officers have been suspended, with pay, following an undisclosed incident.
Police Chief Cam McBride wouldn't say what the incident was, but that it occurred mid-September and resulted in the suspension of five officers.
"This has not occurred for some time, and it's unusual," McBride said, not releasing any details about what happened or the ranks of officers who have been suspended.
McBride said the incident happened while officers were off-duty.
He said the SPS is conducting an internal review, and the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is also investigating.
SIRT is an independent, civilian-led unit that investigates serious incidents involving police officers in Saskatchewan.
In an email to CTV News, SIRT said it's "investigating one aspect of an incident that occurred involving off-duty members of the Saskatoon Police Service."
SIRT said its unable to provide comment while an investigation is open.
