Mayor Don Atchison has declared Jan. 15, 2016 Saskatchewan Rush Day in Saskatoon.
Atchison met Thursday with the lacrosse team’s president, Lee Genier, to sign the proclamation, according to a media release from the team.
The day lands on the same day as the squad’s home opener and first-ever game at Saskatoon’s SaskTel Centre.
“It’s great to have the entire city’s support in this proclamation and an official day dedicated to the team to kick off our season,” Genier said.
The professional lacrosse club, which moved to Saskatoon from Edmonton after winning the NLL championship last season, won their Jan. 2 season opener 10-8 on the road against the Calgary Roughnecks.
The Jan. 15 game, set to face off at 7:30 p.m., pits the Rush against the Vancouver Stealth.
