Sask. RCMP lay murder charge in fatal February shooting

The Saskatchewan RCMP have charged a man with first-degree murder for a fatal February shooting in North Battleford.

Jordan Wright, 32, was shot in a home on 93rd Street in North Battleford on Feb. 2. Police arrived on scene just before 6 p.m., but Wright was pronounced dead soon after, according to the RCMP.

Investigators believe two men entered the home armed with weapons, and a fight ensued before someone fired the fatal shot and the two fled on foot.

On Monday, the RCMP said its major crimes investigators found one of the suspects.

Xavier Lonesinger, a 26-year-old North Battleford man, was arrested on Saturday at the Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre and charged with first-degree murder.

Lonesinger was scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on Monday.

The RCMP says the investigation is ongoing, and its asking anyone with information about Wright’s death to report it to their local police, or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.
