The City of Saskatoon says the cloverleaf overpass on Circle Drive and Highway 11 will need intensive repair work after a crash on Wednesday.

Just before 10 a.m., a semi-truck carrying a cultivator got stuck under the overpass. The cultivator struck several girders on the underside of the overpass, causing loosened concrete over one of the northbound lanes of Highway 11. The outside lane had to be closed while crews removed the loose concrete and cleaned up the debris.

“A preliminary analysis estimates damage to the overpass at $ 0.5 million to $1.0 million,” Rob Frank, the city’s engineering manager for asset preservation said in a written release.

The city says the cost of the repairs will be covered by insurance. Engineers inspected the overpass and deemed it safe to drive on and underneath. While all lanes are open now, there will be closures and traffic restrictions this spring and summer when repairs are scheduled to take place.
