Two men are facing charges after an incident in Lloydminster saw RCMP fire shots during a police chase.

Around 3 a.m. Tuesday, RCMP responded to a break-and-enter in progress at a liquor store in the 5000 block of 18th Street.

Mounties soon identified two pickup trucks as being connected to the break-in, and deployed a spike belt to try to stop one of the vehicles.

Few details have been released on what happened next, but RCMP say an officer opened fire after “an incident occurred at the spike belt deployment location.”

No suspects or officers were injured. The shooting is currently being investigated by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team.

The vehicle was later located just outside the city limits and the two men inside were arrested.

Joel Dillon, 20, of Lloydminster and 29-year-old Lynden Belly of Onion Lake, Sask. have each been charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000, break-and-enter and evading police. Belly also faces a charge of dangerous driving. Both men are scheduled to appear in court Thursday.

RCMP are still looking for the second vehicle, a stolen dark grey Chevrolet pickup truck with a GMC grill and tailgate with chrome side panels. The rear windshield of the truck has white tape in a Union Jack design and the vehicle has a green underglow light that may not be illuminated.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the vehicle is asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
