Saskatoon’s police chief doesn’t believe racism is an issue within the city’s police force.

Chief Clive Weighill was recently asked to respond to RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson’s comment admitting there are racist members within the RCMP.

“I don’t sense any systemic issues within the Saskatoon Police Service at all as it relates to racism,” Weighill told media.

“Everybody in life has ideas on what they believe in. I can say to you that people in our organization may or may not have ideas, but the way we police has nothing to do with that.”

Paulson made his statement while speaking to chiefs of the Assembly of First Nations earlier this week in Gatineau, Que.

“I understand that there are racists in my police force. I don’t want them to be in my police force,” he said.
