Two prisoners at the Saskatoon jail have been convicted of witness intimidation.

The police street gang unit says Danyiel Joseph Dinardo has been convicted of obstructing justice by attempting to influence a witness.

The conviction follows an investigation that wrapped up late 2010.

Police say a separate investigation early this year led to the conviction of Keith Melvin Stonechild, also for obstructing justice by attempting to influence a witness.

Police say both investigations took place before a new law came into force in June allowing corrections officials to listen to inmate phone calls.

Corrections Minister Yogi Huyghebaert has said it will cut down on prisoners using the phone to make drug deals or to intimidate victims and witnesses.
