The Prince Albert Raiders are playing better than they have in years. They're in first place in the WHL's Eastern Conference, and thats led to more fans packing the Art Hauser Centre.

"We're about ten percent up on attendance compared to last year at this same time" said Bruce Vance, head of marketing for the team. "We're getting good crowds on weekdays and Sundays as well, which is great."

The team recently released an economic report saying the Raiders are responsible for over $6 million of economic activity in Prince Albert yearly. They say the larger crowds are really helping the bottom line.

"Our 50/50 numbers are good, bar numbers are great, the walk up numbers are fantastic as well."

With the team winning and the stands full, things are great for everyone.

"It's entertainment, and fans believe they're going to come to the rink and be entertained, and see some success," said the Raiders General Manager, Bruno Campese. "Everyone wants to be associated with a winner, and thats whats happening right now."

One of the teams top players, Anthony Bardaro, agreed with that assessment.

"The atmostphere is so much different. Its exciting and its fun. Thats what you dream of as a kid, the loud crowd. You score a goal and they go crazy. It can really change a game with momentum like that."

The team has also come up with a promotion thats helped bring in even more fans - the chance to win a free trip to Las Vegas.

"Giving away a trip like that every weeknight game, people are buying into it and are excited" said Vance. "We've noticed very strong numbers on our Tuesday and Wednesday crowds, so we'll continue that all year."

The Raiders say attendance numbers historically go up around Christmas time, when hockey season is in full swing and junior teams are in town for tournaments.
