The RCMP have found over 60 kilograms of military and commercial explosives on an acreage north of Saskatoon.

The seizure was made on Tuesday.

Police say the explosives are believed to have been stolen, and hidden in the ground for more than ten years.

They say the landowner was made aware of them after the death of a family member.

Police say finding and disposing of the explosives took more than eight hours. The explosives were buried in separate containers, in a remote wooded area on the acreage.

They say the military explosives were manufactured during the second world war, and that type are still used today. They’ve been returned to Canadian Forces.

The case remains under investigation by the RCMP.
