A woman died in Prince Albert after being struck by vehicle being pursued by the police Wednesday night.

The accident happened after Prince Albert Police were called to a possible impaired driver near 15th Street and 15th Avenue East. Police located the suspect vehicle, however, the 21-year-old male driver from Weldon, Saskatchewan, refused to stop. The suspect vehicle continued southbound on 6th Avenue east in what police described as a “high rate of speed and reckless manner.”

Seconds later, the suspect vehicle allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of 6th Avenue and 28th Street and collided with two motorists.

A Prince Albert woman was seriously injured in the collision and was removed from her vehicle by Prince Albert Fire and Rescue and taken to Victoria Hospital. She died at approximately 12:30 a.m.

The suspect driver and his male passenger received minor injuries. In addition to the driver’s dangerous driving, police believe alcohol was involved.

The driver has been arrested, and a criminal investigation is underway.
