One man is dead after a shooting on the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation.

RCMP received several calls just before 10 a.m. Tuesday about a person firing gunshots near the north-central Saskatchewan community’s health centre.

A person dressed in camouflage and driving an all-terrain vehicle was seen fleeing the area, but police are still working to confirm if he played a role in the incident.

No one has been arrested so far, but Mounties confirm one man is dead. No other injuries have been reported.

Officers from four nearby RCMP detachments, alongside police dogs, emergency response teams, major crimes investigators and forensic identification police, are on scene.

“We want to stress that public safety is our priority and we are asking residents of Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation to please stay inside their residences,” a media release from police read.

STARS air ambulance tweeted just after 10 a.m. a crew from Saskatoon were called to the community.

The victim’s name has not yet been released.

Ahtahkakoop is located west of Prince Albert, in the Shellbrook area.
