A new bishop for the Roman Catholic diocese of Saskatoon has been announced.

Pope Francis appointed Rev. Mark Hagemoen as Saskatoon’s bishop on Tuesday. He made the announcement in Rome.

Saskatoon has been without a bishop since October, when the former bishop moved to serve in Regina.

Hagemoen was ordained as a priest in Vancouver in 1990.

He was previously the bishop of Mackenzie-Fort Smith and currently serves on the Canadian Catholic Aboriginal Council.
