Friday the Saskatchewan government announced a new funding initiative for the province’s creative industries.
In a press release sent out Friday, Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport, Kevin Doherty announced that legislation will be introduced this Spring to establish Creative Saskatchewan – a new agency that is designed to help get talent to their respective markets.
Creative Saskatchewan will collaberate with arts organizations and will help artists get their artists to their respective markets. In the case of the film industry, the new agency will support production. The provincial government will also continue to support the Canada-Saskatchewan Production Studio (soundstage).
In the meantime, the province has allotted $1 million transition fund to support Saskatchewan projects until the agency is launched later this year.
Last March the provincial government cut the film tax credit, resulting in protests across the province from the film industry. Since then, many companies have left Saskatchewan.
