A 22-year-old man is facing murder and attempted murder charges after an apparent shooting in Pelican Narrows.

RCMP allege he killed Mark Clarence Michel, 16, after an altercation in the northeastern Saskatchewan community in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The altercation took place outdoors after Michel and a 17-year-old girl left a home in the community, according to police.

Michel, from Pelican Narrows, was pronounced dead at the community’s health centre.

RCMP believe he died of gunshot wounds. The results of an autopsy scheduled for Wednesday morning in Saskatoon have yet to be released.

The girl did not require medical treatment.

Mounties arrested the suspect, also from Pelican Narrows, at a residence in the community later Tuesday.

He’s since been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder, and with participating in a criminal organization.

His first court appearance is set for Thursday in nearby Sandy Bay, Sask.
