Police say a 38-year-old motorcyclist who crashed at the bottom of the Broadway Bridge early Friday morning was clocked at speeds over 100 km/h prior to the collision.

Officers observed the motorcyclist travelling northbound on the bridge just after 1 a.m. Police tried to slow the rider down by activating emergency lights and sirens, but he missed the turn at the bottom of the bridge and collided with a concrete curb.

Speed and alcohol appear to be factors, police say.

The rider was taken to Royal University Hospital. Police were not sure the extent of his injuries late Friday morning.

The roadway was closed briefly as police investigated.
