More than 3,000 people hit the booths at the 110th Nutana Lions Flea Market on Saturday, shopping for bargains and giving back to a good cause.
The event started back in 1978, with all proceeds going to charity. The flea market featured wares from more than 150 vendors – ranging from fine jewelry and artifacts to cans of strawberry jam.
The event is made up of five Lions Clubs groups – four from Saskatoon and one from MartEnsville. Shoppers could also enter a 50/50 raffle to help raise money for the Clubs’ chosen cause.
“We have a school program where we provide eyeglasses for kids that fall through the cracks for some reason,” Doug Madill from the organizing committee of the flea market said. “Either the government or social assistance won’t cover them, and we try and work with the nurses.”
The event wraps up on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Organizers hope to raise $18,000 to help with community projects.
