A major winter storm is poised to hit Regina, Saskatoon and most of southern Saskatchewan beginning Saturday.

Environment Canada has issued a major winter storm warning for much of the province as a low-pressure system from Alberta is expected to move into the province Saturday, bringing between 10 and 25 centimetres of snow before the storm blows through on Sunday.

Winds as high as 60 km/h and gusting to 80 km/h will accompany the snow, resulting in widespread near-zero visibility conditions, Environment Canada says.

The areas expected to be most affected by the storm is a corridor from the Battlefords through Regina and southeast to Estevan, with the possibility of a blizzard warning for these regions as the storm approaches.
