Susan Milburn won’t stay on as the University of Saskatchewan board chair when her term ends this fall, the university has confirmed.

The long-serving Board of Governors member will step down once a successor is elected in October, the university told CTV in an email. Milburn, who was elected to the board by the university senate in 2006, does not wish to sit on the board for more than nine years.

The university has been at the centre of local and national attention since the firing and re-hiring of a tenured professor and the resulting departures of now-former university president Ilene Busch-Vishniac and provost Brett Fairbairn.

Milburn oversaw the firing of Busch-Vishniac and spoke on behalf of the board following Fairbairn’s resignation.

She currently sits on the board`s audit committee, governance and executive committee and human resources committee.
