A 17-year-old girl is dead and five other people are in hospital after a two-vehicle crash just outside Saskatoon, at the intersection of Highway 16 and the Dalmeny Access Road.

A spokesperson for MD Ambulance said emergency crews were called to the collision at about 6:30 p.m. A total of four ambulances responded alongside police and fire crews, he said.

A teenager was pronounced dead at the scene and four others — three 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old — were taken to Royal University Hospital in stable condition, according to the spokesperson. All five teens were in the same vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 70-year-old man, was taken to St. Paul’s Hospital. He was also in stable condition.

RCMP are still investigating the crash.

Eastbound traffic on Highway 16 was restricted to one lane for several hours, Mounties said in a media release. The highway was reopened shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
