Curtis Mooney guesses he won’t be single for much longer.

The 45-year-old Saskatoon man came forward recently with a winning $5-million Lotto 6-49 ticket, and joked with reporters Monday the win might help his love life.

“How old are you?” a reporter asked him.

“45… and single,” he responded, with a laugh. “But not for long, I don’t think.”

Mooney came forward only recently because he let months go by after the Aug. 31 draw before checking his ticket. He said he only checked the ticket thanks to a reminder from his father.

“My dad saw in the newspaper that there was an outstanding $5-million winner in Saskatoon,” Mooney said. “He knows I have a bad habit of not checking my lottery tickets. I told him I would check the next day.”

He was, of course, in shock when he finally did check the winning ticket.

“It was about 7 o’clock in the morning, and I’m definitely not a morning person,” he said. “It was like, I’m still kind of dazed about this, but OK! $5 million! That’s alright.”

Mooney said he’s aiming to be cautious with his winnings and plans to continue living a low-key life. He’s also hoping to share the wealth.

“This is definitely going to help a lot of people in my life right now, and I’m definitely looking forward to sharing with them,” he said.

Mooney bought the $4 quick pick ticket at 7-11 on Broadway Avenue.
