Prince Albert police charge man in relation to Nov. 17 shooting

Prince Albert’s Police Service (PAPS) has laid charges against a suspect in relation to a shooting in the city’s west end on Nov. 17.

On Dec. 8, a 27-year-old suspect was taken into custody in Meadow Lake by local RCMP officers.

The suspect faces a total of nine charges.

They include possessing a firearm while prohibited, discharging a firearm while being reckless, discharging a firearm with intent to endanger a life, careless use of a firearm, possessing a firearm without a license, possessing a weapon dangerous to the public, carrying a concealed weapon, aggravated assault and uttering threats.

Officers from Prince Albert travelled to the community and took the accused into custody.

He made his first appearance in provincial court on these charges on Dec. 9.

The charges stem from an incident on Nov. 17 on the 300 block of 32nd Street West. Officers responded to reports of a gunshot and injured person just after 6 a.m. that morning.

Police discovered a 23-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Victoria Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

He remains in hospital, continuing his recovery, according to police.
