A new poll suggests the NDP is in a good position to win the upcoming provincial byelection in Saskatoon Meewasin.
The Mainstreet/Postmedia poll, released Monday, shows the NDP slightly favoured above the Saskatchewan Party.
Thirty-seven per cent of the poll’s respondents said they’d vote for the NDP, while 35 per cent said they’re supporting the Sask. Party. The Green Party and Liberals tied for third, with each party earning three per cent support.
The poll surveyed 603 people between Jan. 20 and 21, and carries a margin of error of 3.9 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
Ryan Meili and John Parry are running to be the NDP candidate. The party’s nomination meeting is scheduled for Monday night.
The Saskatchewan Party is set to choose its candidate Jan. 30. Brent Penner, Marv Friesen and Roxanne Kaminski have all put their names forward for the party.
Provincial Liberal Leader Darrin Lamoureux is also running, while David Prokopchuk is campaigning to be the Progressive Conservative Party candidate.
The Saskatoon Meewasin riding was represented by Sask. Party MLA Roger Parent, who died last month after he was diagnosed with cancer.
No date has been set for the byelection.
