Brent Penner has won the Saskatchewan Party nomination for the upcoming Saskatoon Meewasin byelection.

The Downtown Saskatoon executive director and former police officer beat out Marv Friesen and Roxanne Kaminski to win the candidacy Monday night.

The Saskatoon Meewasin riding was most recently represented by Saskatchewan Party MLA Roger Parent, who died last month after he was diagnosed with cancer.

Penner will be competing against NDP candidate and Saskatoon doctor Ryan Meili, provincial Liberal Leader Darrin Lamoureux and PC Party candidate David Prokopchuk for the legislative seat.

No date has been set for the byelection.
