Saskatoon’s Mike Babcock will receive an honourary degree from the University of Saskatchewan.
The university will honour the decorated hockey coach by awarding him an honourary Doctor of Law for achievement and exceptional service to the community at the spring convocation on June 2.
“With a Stanley Cup, world hockey championship titles and Olympic gold medals to his credit, Mike Babcock’s coaching record is remarkable and we are honoured to have him take part in our spring convocation ceremonies,” said U of S President Peter Stoicheff in a written release.
Babcock joins fellow Saskatchewan sports stars Gordie Howe, and Canadian Olympains Diane Jones-Konihowski and Catriona Le May Doan, who have also earned honourary degrees from the U. of S.
Babcock signed an 8 year contract last year to be the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
