Kevin Phillips

Phillips has lived in the Melfort constituency for nearly 40 years. He has worked in business and advertising in Melfort, including being a partner with the Melfort Journal for over 25 years and sitting on the board of the Canadian Community Newspaper Association. He is currently serving his second term as the mayor of Melfort.

"Serving the people is a great thing. I have enjoyed what I have been able to accomplish as mayor and I enjoy working and listening to the people. If elected as the MLA for Melfort, I will continue to listen and serve the great people of this constituency," Phillips said following his nomination.

Phillips will be drawing from the wealth of experience of current MLA Rod Gantefoer.

"Rod has been an exceptional MLA and I look forward to learning from him and working hard to ensure the Melfort constituency continues to be well represented in the legislature."

Phillips and his wife April together have four children and five grandchildren.

Ivan Yackel – NDP

Ivan Yackel

Born and raised in Lipton, Saskatchewan, Yackel has been a teacher, principal, Director of Education, senior government official, Assistant Deputy Minister of Education, and business owner. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education, Post Graduate Diploma, Masters of Education and Ph.D.

Yackel retired as Director of Education with the North East School Division in 2009 and established his own consulting company working with educational organizations and school boards across the province. He most recently served as the Interim Executive Director for the provincial League of Educational Administrators, Directors and Superintendents.

Yackel and his wife Twila have four sons, two daughters-in-law and two grandsons.
