A Martensville man who died in a snowmobile crash last week is being remembered for his commitment to building the sport of softball.

Brian MacPherson, 48, died Thursday while snowmobiling with friends in Montana.

MacPherson was president of the Martensville Amateur Softball Association and Jason Schmiedge, who worked closely with him to develop girls’ softball in Martensville and Warman, says the news of MacPherson's death came as a big shock.

"Everyone respected Brian. He was a man of integrity. He always put children first and I think that in the end is what people realize genuinely what a good person he was,” he said.

MacPherson had two daughters and loved helping out with their softball teams, Schmiedge said.

"The girls loved him. He got along with everybody. He treated children and parents with respect."

Schmiedge says they plan on creating a volunteer award in his honour and are setting up a trust fund for his family.

MacPherson is the second Saskatchewan man to die on a snowmobile in the last five days. On Friday, two men were buried by an avalanche while snowmobiling near Blue River, B.C. A 36-year-old man from Lloydminster died.
