A Toronto man says he is another step closer to proving he is the son of former Canadian Prime Minister John Diefenbaker.

In September, George Dryden claimed he had proof of a genetic link between himself and the Diefenbakers. The results came after he had a Q-tip used by a Diefenbaker relative tested. But that test could not confirm a direct relation to the former Prime Minister.

Now, a hair sample and tooth believed to have belonged to John Diefenbaker is being shipped to Toronto where it will be tested next week.

Dryden says this may give him the final closure he's been after for the past year and a half. During a phone interview with CTV Saskatoon, he says it would prove his mother had an affair with the Progressive Conservative leader in the 1960s.

“I can see people's point of view. I've proven that I’m related to the Deifenbakers but I haven't proven I am his son, so if there is DNA on this hair or if it is in fact his tooth, that will be enough evidence to satisfy everybody else."
