The first witness took the stand Monday in the trial of a Saskatoon man accused of killing a university student and burning her body.

Douglas Hales is charged with first-degree murder and indignity to human remains in the death of 25-year-old Daleen Bosse.

Shawn Pauliuk, who was head bouncer at what was Jax Nite Club in Saskatoon in 2004, said Hales was a part-time bouncer at the club.

Pauliuk testified that on May 18, 2004, Hales came in to the club with an aboriginal woman, had one or two drinks, then left the bar with her.

He identified the woman he saw that night as Bosse.

Bosse was last seen alive that night and her remains were found north of Saskatoon in 2008.
