Fire destroys acreage home south of Saskatoon
An acreage home just south of Saskatoon was destroyed by fire Tuesday.
Firefighters were called to the blaze on Baker Road, a few kilometres east of Highway 11, around 4 p.m.
Crews initially battled the fire but elected to step away from the scene when winds picked up around 5 p.m.
The high winds caused flames to spread rapidly. The home was quickly destroyed.
Assistant fire chief Morgan Hackl said the fire started in the back of the home, where there was a large patio. The house was built mostly from cedar wood, he said.
A number of water-tanker trucks were called to the scene because there were no hydrants in the area.
No one was injured. The homeowner was visibly shaken up.
Several neighbours on scene were nervous the fire would spread to their homes because of the dry conditions in the area.
