Following a brief court appearance on accusations of sexual assault, convicted sex offender Norbert Leslie Dumais, 56, is set to be back in North Battleford provincial court later this month. Dumais was arrested nearly three weeks ago in Leoville, a community 136 Km northwest of Prince Albert.

National Parole Board documents obtained by CTV Saskatoon reveal Dumais was released from prison in May 2009 after serving every day of an eight-and-a-half year sentence for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl. At the time, RCMP issued a community warning about his release detailing his criminal behaviour.

According to the documents, Dumais has a criminal record of 41 convictions dating back to 1972. It includes a count each of attempted murder, obstructing justice, and uttering threats, plus seven counts of robbery with violence and weapons.

He has three previous convictions for sex assaults on young teenaged girls:

In 1988, he was convicted for forcing a 14-year-old girl to perform a sex act on him while choking her.

In 1991, he was guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl over a one year period

In 1994, he was convicted of repeatedly sexually assaulting a woman while she was between the ages of 13 and 18-years-old.

The board repeatedly denied his parole saying -- if released -- he would "likely commit a sexual offence involving a child."

One Parole Board report reveals Dumais wrote a letter to the Board dated March 2, 2007, in which he acknowledges he is a pedophile. The report quotes Dumais as he admits to "…have taken sex offender treatment to deal with the fact I will probably remain moderate to high risk for the remainder of my life."
