Reviving Kinsmen Play Village would be costly, says Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison.
The city is planning to move equipment from the playground to Ashworth Holmes Park in Caswell Hill, following the recent opening of PotashCorp Playland at Kinsmen Park.
More than 1,300 people signed a petition, however, calling on City Hall to review the decision. The petition, presented to the city by Saskatoon resident Robin Hansen, aims to keep the equipment at Kinsmen Park.
City officials are reviewing the decision, but Atchison notes the city has already committed to bringing new equipment to Caswell Hill.
“One of the things that is really important for me, though, is the people in Caswell Hill,” Atchison said. “There was a commitment made that they were going to have new playground equipment… and that that was going to happen for them, so we need to make sure that we honour that commitment.”
Leaving the structure in Kinsmen Park would also be costly, he said. Both the rubber base and the pool are worn out and need to be replaced.
