A pilot was taken to hospital in Humbolt Tuesday evening after a crop duster crash-landed in a canola field.

RCMP were called to the scene of the accident near Quill Lake shortly after 5:30 p.m. A crop duster had just taken off a grass runway after filling with pesticide. RCMP said the plane experienced what seemed to be engine trouble, and landed in a neighbouring canola field.

The sudden stop caused the plane to roll forward, and the plane came down to rest upside down in the field.

The pilot only suffered minor injuries and RCMP said they didn’t detect any leaks or spills.

The National Transportation Safety Board has taken over the investigation.
