A three year old boy from northeast Saskatchewan is dead – and RCMP say the death is suspicious.

Police say the child was from a rural home just south of Garrick, west of Nipawin. Police got involved after EMS were called to help a child in medical distress on the evening of December 1.

Police say the child was taken to hospital in Nipawin, then Prince Albert, and finally Saskatoon, where he died on December 4.

An autopsy was held on December 7, and police are waiting for toxicology results, and a report from a neuro-pathologist. But at this point in the investigation the death is being treated as suspicious.

The RCMP’s Saskatoon Major Crime Unit is the lead agency in investigating the death, but others are involved as well.

So far the name of the child has not been released.
