Burning candles are thought to have caused a fire in a building on 33rd Street West and Avenue C. North on Sunday morning.

Fire crews made their way to the building at 301 33rd Street West shortly after 10 a.m. At first, they didn’t see smoke on the outside of the building, but upon entering they found smoke throughout.

The smoke was thickest in the basement, where firefighters found a small fire in a storage room.

There are no reported injuries from the fire.

An investigator determined the fire to be accidental, caused by burning candles. The total damage from the smoke, described as extensive, is estimated at $100,000.

Fire officials warn the public to not leave burning candles unattended.
