One of Saskatoon's oldest schools is marking a huge milestone this weekend. King George School turns 100 years old, and reunion organizer Pat Dubets says the school has been maintained well.

“It’s pretty much the same as when it was built. The wood floors, the oak railings,” says Dubets. “These castle schools were built to last, and they show the optimism that our city forefathers had.”

Hundreds of former staff and students are coming to celebrate the milestone. And the school has some famous alumni, including NHL legend Gordie Howe.

Along with shared memories, organizers are hoping to unearth form time capsules, and open them over the course of the weekend.

Events begin Friday night and continue Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast. The official program starts 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
