Electoral history

PC Ray Hnatyshyn won Saskatoon Biggar in 1972 and 1974, then held Saskatoon West 1979-1988 and was Energy Minister, House Leader; President of Privy Council, Attorney General—later, Governor General.
The area was held 1988-1999 by Chris Axworthy, NDP, in Saskatoon-Clark’s Crossing and Rosetown-Biggar, quitting after losing a provincial leadership bid.
Then he tried for election in 2006 in Saskatoon-Wanuskewin but was defeated.
The NDP’s Dennis Gruending (who ran second in 1997 in Saskatoon-Humboldt) won the 1999 by-election, only to lose to Carol Skelton of Alliance in 2000. She won over Gruending again in 2004 and won in 2006. She retired and the 2008 winner was Conservative Kelly Block.
Saskatoon Wanuskewin was created in the area for the 1997 vote and held by Reform-Conservative Maurice Vellacott 1997-2015 defeating Chris Axworth in 2004 and 2006 who had become a Liberal after failing to get the NDP to be less left-wing.
