Two women are in hospital recovering from stab wounds after a violent attack on the city's west side early Tuesday.

The women were walking in a back alley just off Avenue U near 22nd Street West at around 12:30 a.m. when a man with a knife demanded their belongings, Saskatoon police said in a news release.

One woman was stabbed in the arm and is in stable condition in hospital. The other woman, who was stabbed in the calf and thigh, also remains in hospital.

Police say they are looking for a suspect described as a Native male in his late teens. He was wearing dark clothing and a balaclava at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Saskatoon police.
