A Saskatoon woman is facing 50 charges of harassment, fraud and uttering threats in what police are calling a very complex case.

Amanda May Totchek, 28, was first charged in February. She is alleged, over the last few months, to have harassed a Saskatoon man as well as his friends, family and acquaintances through a complicated mail scheme.

“It’s very complex. It involves a number of different people,” said Alyson Edwards, a spokesperson for Saskatoon police.

Police said she sent large envelopes, filled with several sealed letters, to random businesses and people in Saskatoon. The sealed envelopes, which contained harassing content unbeknownst to the businesses and random people, were addressed to different addresses. The writer of the sealed letters, claiming to be a child, asked the random business or person to send out the letters to their marked addresses.

“They contained content that was harassing,” said Edwards. “The people that received them and forwarded them on did so not knowing this was criminal activity.”

Investigators don’t know how many victims were sent letters.

“We don’t know how many more were out there,” Edwards said.

Police issued a request for public assistance Tuesday and asked anyone possessing packages or letters similar to those allegedly sent by Totchek to contact police.

Totchek appeared in Saskatoon provincial court on Tuesday. Her next appearance is scheduled for April 22.
