A 49-year-old Saskatoon woman who has been charged in connection with a crash that killed four people appeared in court on Monday morning, just 36 hours after the crash.

Around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday morning RCMP came across the two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 11 and Wanuskewin Road.

RCMP say it appears a car travelling westbound on Highway 11 was struck by a Jeep that was trying to cross the highway on Wanuskewin Road.

Four people were inside the car – the 34-year-old male driver, a 33-year-old woman, five-year-old girl and two-year-old boy – all from Saskatoon.

The two adults died at the scene and both children were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The two-year-old boy later died in hospital. RCMP confirmed on Monday that the five-year-old girl had also passed away.

The victims have been identified as Jordan Van De Vorst, his wife Chanda and their children, two-year-old Miguire and five-year-old Kamryn.

The driver and lone occupant of the Jeep, Catherine Loye McKay, 49, of Saskatoon, was taken to hospital and released. She has since been charged with three counts of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

McKay made her first court appearance on Monday. She has been remanded into custody in Prince Albert until her bail hearing on Thursday.
