A blast of wintery weather last week has wreaked havoc on Saskatoon streets.

Roads that city pothole crews had already repaired prior to Friday’s rainy and snowy weather were filled with new potholes this week.

“The moisture from the rain and snow over the past few days is causing many new potholes to form on all Saskatoon streets,” the city wrote in a media release Tuesday.

City crews began their spring pothole blitz last week by tackling potholes on high-priority streets. This week they were pushed back to square one.

“This set-back requires crews to start over with the Priority 1 and 2 streets, pushing back the other streets that were scheduled for this week,” the city wrote.

The city’s online pothole reporting tool, which allows citizens to identify pothole locations on a city map, has been filled with red and green dots since the tool launched mid-March. Red dots refer to reported pot holes and green dots refer to repaired potholes.

Crews won’t be able to tackle potholes on less-travelled streets until they’ve caught up on high-traffic routes.

Street sweeping, which also began April 14, did not occur from Thursday to Monday because of the weather. Crews cannot sweep when there are pools of water on the street or during sub-zero temperatures.

Sweeping resumed Tuesday.
