A 13-year-old boy from Warman received a two-year sentence in youth court after pleading guilty to stabbing a female classmate last fall.

The boy apologized and wiped tears from his eyes as his relatives watched him being led away in handcuffs on Tuesday.

Court heard that the boy has never given a reason for the attack.

The victim's mother read a victim impact statement explaining how her daughter is still dealing with the physical effects of the stabbing, along with psychological effects including depression.

The boy was originally charged with attempted murder but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of aggravated assault in May.

His sentence will consist of eight months in a youth facility, followed by eight months of open custody and another eight months of community supervision.
