Anglers fishing northern Saskatchewan lakes are in for a bad surprise upon their return after almost two dozen vehicles were vandalized while parked in a locked compound at La Ronge.

A patrolling RCMP officer in the northern community surprised a suspect who was breaking into vehicles parked on Sunday.

Twenty-three vehicles had their windows broken and contents rummaged through, RCMP said in a news release. The suspect is facing several charges and is scheduled to appear Tuesday in La Ronge provincial court.

The vehicles are stored in the compound while the owners are flown to fishing camps in northern Saskatchewan.

Police say the suspect may not have been working alone and the officers are still following leads in relation to this incident.

Anyone whose vehicle was damaged or has information is asked to contact the La Ronge RCMP detachment or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
