The government of Canada is giving $4.7 million to the University of Saskatchewan to build two new facilities, aiming to better Canada’s cattle industry.

The Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence (LFCE) will consist of a field and science lab designed to research beef, forage, calf, forage and environmental sustainability.

The total cost of the LFCE is $37.5 million, which includes funding from the university, provincial and federal governments and the Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association.

The centre is set to improve Canadian beef quality, sustainability, food safety and productivity.

The research facility is set to be completed by 2018.
