Two drivers are dead after a southbound pickup truck crossed into Highway 2’s northbound lane near Prince Albert and struck an SUV, RCMP say.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at 8 p.m. Sunday. The collision occurred about five kilometres north of Prince Albert.

Mounties say a pickup truck driven by a 30-year-old man from Little Red River First Nation hit an SUV driven by a 66-year-old Christopher Lake man. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the man in the pickup truck was pulled out of the vehicle by members of the public who arrived at the collision. The vehicle started on fire shortly after he was pulled out.

A 62-year-old woman who was a passenger in the SUV sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

No names have been released.

RCMP are still investigating.
