A stalled train on Tuesday has raised questions about the locomotives coming through the city.

“At first I was like, ‘OK I won’t be stopped for long.’ But then frustration started to kick in and I saw it kick in the people behind me,” said Catlin Hogan, who was stopped behind the stalled train on Idlwyld and 25th Street.

According to a Canadian Pacific spokesperson, the train was forced to stop downtown because of engine trouble. The rail giant had to bring in another train to finally move it away from the city’s core.

Under Mayor Don Atchison, Saskatoon has built bridges and roads to help keep traffic in the city moving. The mayor is concerned about the effect trains have on traffic, and he said he plans to bring up the possibility of moving the tracks out of downtown when he meets with a rail company next month.

“I like trains, as long as they don’t stop in Saskatoon and block traffic,” Atchison said.

CP said they’re willing to talk to the city and hear their concerns, however, they said they’re satisfied with the current locations and don’t have plans to relocate their yard.
