A tornado touched down south of Leroy, Sask., and at least one other tornado was reported in the province’s east-central area Friday afternoon.

Photos from a CTV viewer showed one tornado touching the ground south of Leroy at about 4 p.m., and according to Environment Canada, other reports indicated one touched down near Chorney Beach, about 100 kilometres east of Leroy.

The touchdowns occurred as Environment Canada had tornado warnings out for the Humboldt area — which includes Leroy and Chorney Beach — as well as the Moosomin region in the province’s southeast corner.

“This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation,” the warnings read. “Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately.”

The warnings were issued alongside several severe thunderstorm warnings across the province.

The Moosomin tornado warning and some of the thunderstorm warnings were still in effect Friday evening.
