A 16-month-old boy rushed to hospital after he was hit by a truck in Saskatoon has died.

Police were called to the collision on the 100 block of Whelan Crescent, in the city’s Confederation Park neighbourhood, just after 10:30 a.m. Friday.

The child was pronounced dead in hospital, police said in a media release.

A resident who claimed to know the driver told CTV the truck was backing up when it hit the boy.

Another neighbour said the boy was staying with a relative. The family was well respected in the neighbourhood, she said.

Police said they will not be releasing the boy’s name.

Speed and alcohol were not contributing factors.
