It was a record-setting day in Saskatoon and across the province Monday as temperatures soared well above normal values.

The temperature in Saskatoon peaked at 23.8 degrees Celsius, beating the old record of 22.2 that was set 40 years ago.

Regina broke a 76-year-old record when its temperature hit 24.1 degrees and more than two dozen other communities around the province – including Wynyard, Weyburn, Estevan and North Battleford -- also broke temperature records, some of which were more than 100 years old.

Environment Canada says spring and fall weather are the toughest to predict because the jet streams are so extreme.

“This is an unusual weather pattern especially (compared to) the last couple Octobers that have been on the cool side,” said Terri Lang of Environment Canada.

The above-normal daytime highs are expected to fall as the week progresses and with temperatures returning to normal values by the weekend.
