Saskatoon police are deeming the death of a 16-year-old boy found injured outside a Westmount area home a homicide.
Officers were called to the 100 block of Avenue I North around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday. A teen was found injured outside a residence and later pronounced dead at the scene.
Police initially called the death suspicious and, on Thursday following an autopsy, determined the death to be a homicide — the city’s fourth of the year.
Police did not release the name of the boy, but friends confirmed him as Danny Tsannie.
“When he was around someone, he would just make them laugh no matter how they were feeling. He was just a really good friend,” said Jayden Gordon.
Tsannie was out of school but planning to go back, according to friends. He was loyal and had a good sense of humour.
Kaleb Kradovill said he spoke with Tsannie on Tuesday night about getting together, but the two never met up. He wished he could have been there for his friend.
“He was a buddy I could count on to have my back through anything, so it’s real hard that he is gone,” said Kradovill.
Keshia Kakakaway said she can’t believe he’s gone.
“Everything was going through my head. It was unreal,” said Kakakaway.
Tsannie’s death is Saskatoon’s second teen homicide since March 25. Brittney Gargol, 18, was found injured on the outskirts of the city before she died last week.
Major crime officers are still investigating both cases.
